Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has explained that Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been undergoing a rehabilitation program but hasn’t admitted when he would be back.
Alisson played a major role for Liverpool last season since making the move from AS Roma in a massive £65 million bid as he won the Golden Glove in the Premier League and also helped the Reds to the Champions League title.
But the Liverpool number one shot-stopper suffered an unfortunate calf injury on the opening day of the Premier League season on August 9th against Norwich City. Initially, the estimated time of the injury duration was around 6-7 weeks but Klopp has stated that there is no definite timeline to pinpoint his Alisson’s return date.
While speaking to reporters, the 52-year-old German manager said that he had lunch with Alisson on Friday and the goalkeeper did look to be in good spirits as he continues working closely with the medical team to get him back to full fitness, “[He is] not that close, but nobody told me that I have to consider him for tomorrow in training or the game. I had lunch with him today, so at least he can eat! He looks good, he is in good shape, a good mood, but it will take time, I don’t know [how long] exactly. [There is] no date in my mind and nobody told me a date, we didn’t ask, we want to give him the time he needs, but it looks good. In the beginning, he was on crutches, which is normal with the injury he had. They are not there anymore, so he walks normally and he can really train completely differently now to a week ago. I think from now on it will go quick, but how quickly I don’t know.”
