Jurgen Klopp rubbishes talk of rebuilding his Liverpool squad in the summer

Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed talk suggesting the Merseyside outfit were in need of a major rejig during the forthcoming summer transfer window.

The Reds have fallen behind their fellow title-challengers this season in the race to secure the Premier League crown after last season’s triumph and recent results have left Jurgen Klopp’s side vying hard to finish in the top-four come the end of the campaign.

With a never-ending injury list and speculation involving the long-term futures of a number of regulars in the Anfield setup, speculation has been rampant over Klopps’s plans for the summer, with many believing that the Reds gaffer would be looking to bring in fresh faces on Merseyside in order to fortify his squad’s ranks.

However, the German coach seems quite persistent in retaining his present members as he rejected talk of the Merseysiders planning a massive overhaul in the summer after what has been by all accounts an uninspiring title-defence from his star-studded team.

‘Rebuild? No. I don’t think it is time for a massive rebuild like how I understand it: six, seven out, running contracts but trying to get rid of them and bring in all the new faces,’ said the boss as quoted by The Times.

‘The squad of this year didn’t have the chance to play together one time really. I think it would make sense to have a look at that but, on top of that, of course little readjustments will happen.

‘Reacting to the situation but planning, at the same time, for the future and all these kinds of things. I am not sure we can do that in the summer, but that is what we will try.’

In spite of the gaffer’s downplaying of recent rumours on the transfer front, Liverpool FC are understood to be right in the mix to make moves in the market during the summer, with the likes of Sven Botman and Florian Neuhaus high on Klopp’s wishlist.
