Jürgen Klopp ruled out his midfield player Curtis Jones for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid with Jones’ return to the fold expected in time for this weekend’s league action.
The 20-year-old has been on the sidelines with a minor niggle which forced him to miss the 5-0 rout of Watford last Saturday after enduring the injury while on international duty with the England U21’s.
There had been the speculation that Jones will be in line to feature on Tuesday night in the Spanish capital city but Jurgen Klopp played down such rumours in his pre-match presser as the Liverpool boss confirmed that the No.17 was set to miss the upcoming game.
“Unfortunately Curtis was only with us in the warming up and will be here in Liverpool to hopefully make the final steps to full training.
“Today he did only warming up and then did his stuff, but still individual training and we decided to leave him here to continue that. And then hopefully he is ready for United.”
Klopp has fallen short of viable options in his midfield department after injuries to Jones and Thiago Alcantara added to the long-term absence expected of the teenage talent Harvey Elliott.
Fabinho, however, will be set for a return to the starting teamsheet for Liverpool after his unavailability last time around away at Watford due to his late return from the Brazil fold during the international break.
