Jurgen Klopp speaks out on contract talks with star winger Sadio Mane

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refused to sound out much information over the ongoing contract talks with star winger Sadio Mane to extend his Anfield stint.

Mane’s current terms on Merseyside are due to expire in the summer of 2023 with Liverpool having nine months to strike out a new agreement with the Senegal forward and his camp.

With Liverpool’s struggles on the contract front with another star forward in Mohamed Salah well-documented of late, there has been speculation doing the rounds over Mane could be in line to call it quits at the club this coming summer.

The former Southampton man has long attracted interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid who are planning an overhaul of their ranks ahead of the new season and have looked at Mane as a top target.

Klopp, however, played down concerns over Mane’s future in his pre-match presser ahead of the Manchester United clash with the Liverpool manager remaining coy over the negotiations underway between the club and Mane’s representatives.

“It is my fault, I made a mistake talking to you about the Mo contract situation which I usually didn’t do, and it led to plenty of misunderstandings.

“And you ask again (about Mane), so I go back to my former approach and close the door again, nothing to say about any kind of negotiations or something like this.

“When we have something to announce, you are definitely the first group to get the info. Until then, we just wait.”
