Jurgen Klopp speaks out on Diogo Jota’s transfer, the forward’s ability and his shirt number

Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight at having been successful in completing Diogo Jota’s transfer from the Molineux Stadium in an interview given to the club’s official website, liverpoolfc.com.

Liverpool FC confirmed the capture of the Wolves’ frontman on a long-term deal amid rumours that the 23-year old had signed for the Anfield giants until 2025. Jota’s signature reportedly set back the Premier League champions a fee in the region of £45 million taking into account various add-ons.

The Liverpool FC manager was vocal in his praise for the latest Anfield recruit’s ability on the pitch and labelled the Portuguese international as ‘far away from being kind of a finished article’. Jota’s impressive outings in the Wolves shirt were reportedly a major factor in convincing Klopp to make a formal approach for the player instead of chasing Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, a long-term attacking target for the Reds.

“He’s 23 years old, still far away from being kind of a finished article, so much potential. He has the speed, he can combine, can defend, can press. It makes it just more unpredictable and gives us real options for different systems because he can play pretty much all three positions up front in a 4-3-3, if we play with four midfielders he can play both wings.”

Amid previously existing speculation that the new Liverpool FC signing would be donning the number 20 jersey, one which was previously Adam Lallana’s prior to his move to Brighton this summer, the 53-year old Klopp confirmed that Jota would be in fact Lallana’s successor to the shirt number.

“It’s a nice number, No.20. Confident as well, did I mention that? All good. I’m pretty sure Adam is completely fine with that. Both obviously really good footballers – different players, but really good footballers. Both run a lot, so at least the shirt is used to that! There will be a lot of sweat after the game!”
