Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has urged UEFA to take some action against Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain for violating the rules of Financial Fair Play.
Premier League champions Manchester City have come under jeopardy over the recent few weeks after Der Spiegel published allegations that the Blue half of Manchester had struck a deal with UEFA back in 2014 to potentially avoid a Champions League ban for breaching the rules of the Financial Fair Play.
Reports claimed that City’s owner Sheikh Mansour ‘supplemented’ club’s sponsors and deals in order to avoid punishment. Manchester City has then labeled these accusations as ‘organized and clear’ to damage the reputation of the club.
Even Paris Saint Germain, who are in the same group with Liverpool in the Champions League was also accused by Der Spiegel to artificially inflate their sponsorship revenues in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp still has to read the news published by Der Spiegel but believes that the clubs should face punishment if found guilty.
While speaking to Sky Sports, the 51-year-old German boss stated that the Financial Fair Play is a good thing and anyone who breaks the laws should face consequences, “It is really difficult to comment but what I can say in general is that FFP is a really good thing. But we always thought that, if it is in place, they have to do something with it. I have no clue what happens.
I know it is about Paris and Man City. I’m not sure if other clubs are being talked about. I think FFP is a really good thing because it sets the rules. If everything is fine, then everything is fine. If not, then somebody should do something. That’s all I can say but I have no clue about the real story.”
Liverpool takes on the bottom of the table club Fulham on Sunday hoping to climb to the summit of the Premier League. But this is extremely unfair on teams that follow rules and regulations and compete with pride and honor. Certainly, there must be action taken against top clubs if they break rules so blatantly.
