Jurgen Klopp wants a replay of the Tottenham match after referee controversies

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has commented on the recent VAR controversy involving the disallowed goal by Luis Diaz in their match against Tottenham Hotspur.

In one of the game’s most important moments, Diaz ran through the Spurs’ defense and received a well-timed pass from Mohamed Salah, calmly putting the ball into the net just after the half-hour mark.

The joy of the winger’s goal was short-lived when the assistant referee raised the offside flag. VAR officials Darren England and assistant Dan Cook reviewed the incident and confirmed that the initial call was wrong, and Diaz was actually onside.

However, the on-field decision remained unchanged, causing controversy and sparking a debate about VAR.

The PGMOL admitted to a “significant human error” and issued an apology to Liverpool. Still, the Reds weren’t satisfied and demanded access to audio recordings of the communication between the on-field referee and the VAR.

In his press conference before Liverpool’s upcoming Europa League match against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Klopp commented on the situation.

As reported by Sky Sports, he said:

“All of the people involved, the on-field referee, linesman, fourth official and VAR – they didn’t do that on purpose. It was a mistake.”

“I think the outcome should be a replay. That probably won’t happen. The argument against is that everyone will ask for them, but this situation is so unprecedented.”

The Liverpool manager understood that the officials involved did not intentionally deny his team a win but rather made a serious error in judgment.

The controversial VAR decision has had consequences, as the officials involved in the incident have been sidelined and won’t be officiating in the upcoming weekend’s fixtures.

It also affected the Mersey side club since they were unable to get all three points and had their two key players dismissed in the match.

The fans won’t be happy that such decisions were allowed to be made even if it was totally wrong. Any club could have been a victim of that.
