Jurgen Klopp wants the Liverpool board to offer a renewal to James Milner

Jurgen Klopp wants the Liverpool board to offer a contract renewal to James Milner whose current terms are due to expire at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old English midfielder has been one of the most trusted names at Anfield since Klopp took charge back in 2015 but recent seasons have seen Milner grow into a bit part player following his fall down the pecking order.

With Milner’s contract with Liverpool running out in a few month’s time, there had been speculation that the Reds could be inclined towards letting him leave as Klopp fancies a rebuild of his midfield roster over the summer.

According to a report from Football Insider, however, the Liverpool manager is keen to retain Milner’s services for the new season and the German is pushing for the club’s board to offer the former Manchester City man Milner a new deal.

It is said that the leadership and off-pitch presence shown by Milner are of much importance to a Liverpool side which has failed to met expectations this season with their performances and look likely to miss out on Champions League football.
