Liverpool are in a hot pursuit to sign the RB Leipzig superstar striker Timo Werner. He has been rumored as a potential summer signing for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool from a long time.
The German international had an incredible season in front of the goal. Werner scored 27 goals in 36 appearances this season for the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, including four goals in the Champions League.
The RB Leipzig superstar is said to have a £51 million release clause which expires on June 15 this year.
The prolific performance of the German striker this season had attracted the attention from a number of different clubs like the German champions Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United, as well as both the Milan clubs, Inter Milan and AC Milan apart from Liverpool.
The German champions, Bayern Munich had the opportunity to sign him last summer transfer window, but they opted to sign the former Liverpool player, Philippe Coutinho on a season long loan from Barcelona instead.
The lurking of these big clubs to swoop the 24-year-old striker has made Klopp desperate to establish a proper contact with Timo Werner and his agents.
According to the latest reports, Jurgen Klopp ‘wants to meet Werner to convince him to make the move to the Anfield’. The Liverpool manager believes that Timo Werner is a much needed alternative to the Liverpool’s extraordinary front three of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

The Liverpool manager’s transfer pursuit of Timo Werner has suffered a setback due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The crisis which wrecked havoc across the global has prevented this meeting to take place thus far and with no clear end date in sight, it has shattered the possibility of announcing a done deal by the Liverpool.
However, Liverpool are leading the race to sign Timo Werner this summer. His transfer would add more strength and depth to the Red’s squad. Klopp wants to decrease the work load on the Liverpool’s famed front three by adding more quality attacking options to the bag, which this transfer will immensely enhance with the likes of Divok Origi and Takumi Minimino as the other replacement options.
