Injury Update

Klopp confirms Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota injury setback ahead of Community Shield clash

Jurgen Klopp sounded out confirmation that his first-choice shot-stopper Alisson Becker will miss Saturday’s Community Shield showdown against Manchester City with an injury.

Alisson has not made the team sheet for Liverpool since the pre-season friendly defeat to arch-rivals Manchester United in Bangkok earlier this month and the Brazilian would not be in the mix to feature over the weekend.

Liverpool lock horns with the Premier League holders Manchester City at the King Power Stadium with both teams vying for the Community Shield trophy but Klopp will have to make do without Alisson’s influential presence between the goalposts.

Another star player missing from the Liverpool squad come Saturday would be the Portugal international attacker Diogo Jota whose muscle injury has meant a recent spell on the sidelines.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Klopp provided twin setbacks on the injury front for his side with both Alisson and Jota in line to sit out the upcoming game while the former will eye a return to the XI in time for the opening day of the league campaign.

“No, Alisson and Diogo have no [chance]. Ali trained today more than the day before so he will be definitely available for Fulham, but not for the weekend.

“And the same for Diogo. Diogo was not here with us so how could he play a football game? That will take a while unfortunately. That’s it.”
