Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp believes that it might become difficult for England boss Gareth Southgate to have his best players at his disposal ahead of the 2021 UEFA Euros following the recent spree of injuries affecting the England stars.
A number of players who turn out for both the Merseyside Reds as well as The Three Lions, namely Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander Arnold, and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain have all been subject to significant injury troubles since the start of the new season.
Klopp has been largely critical of the three-sub restriction in the Premier League along with the intense fixture list scheduling for the Reds this campaign, which the German coach has attributed to the ever-increasing list of injury issues to first-team regulars in the Liverpool FC squad.
“I’m sure we will discuss it early again, because of the influence of three subs,” said Klopp, as quoted by Goal.
“Now pretty much all teams have to play every three days, it will be massive for everybody from now on and every team will feel the difference. Next summer it will be a problem for Gareth Southgate.
“All of the players Gareth wants to pick play [European] football most of them, pretty much all. Most of them are playing three times a week, to do that from February, on again, and play three times a week all the time. Gareth will get what we give him if we stick with three subs.”
Trent Alexander Arnold, however, is on the verge of staging a return to action ahead of Liverpool FC playing hosts to Wolves on Sunday at Anfield with the England full-back missing from the lineup since early last month after sustaining a minor hamstring blow.
