Injury Update

Late assessment to be made on Diogo Jota’s availability for Crystal Palace fixture, says Jurgen Klopp

Diogo Jota’s fitness for Sunday’s Anfield showdown against Crystal Palace will be subject to a late assessment with the Liverpool forward set to return to team training on Saturday, according to Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Reds gaffer provided a fresh update over Jota’s situation which had come to light following his foot injury in the recent win over Manchester United.

Klopp says decision not made yet over Jota featuring over the weekend

The Portugal forward is key to Liverpool’s fortunes in the final third of the pitch and despite Roberto Firmino returning to his very best in front of the goal of late, Klopp will be eager to rely upon Jota for the final Premier League game awaiting the Merseysiders.

Klopp said that that plans for Jota to return to training on Saturday were in place and there was a chance of the player being deemed fit to take part in the weekend contest at Anfield against the visiting Eagles.

“I don’t know yet. It all looked good and he will probably train today – that was the plan yesterday.

“And when he can train, we have a look how he trains and then we make a decision if he will be involved.”

Jota’s return unlikely to alter Klopp’s team selection

The Liverpool boss is unlikely to tinker around with his starting eleven for Sunday’s game with Klopp tipped to field the same side that emerged comfortable victors last time around at Turf Moor against Burnley.

Firmino, Salah and Mane are all expected to be present in the Liverpool frontline meaning that should Jota stage a hastened return to the fold, he will have to suffice with a spot on the bench.
