It was the visitors to Anfield FC Porto who got going on the attacking front and could have taken a well-earned lead through Otavio whose effort went wide of the goal.

Liverpool had an effort of their own which found the back of the net by Sadio Mane but a VAR check deemed the Senegesle to be offside in the build-up to the strike.

Both sides went into the half-time break with the scoreline at nil-nil in a game that was fought on equal footing but could have gone either way.

The home side got hold of the breakthrough early on inside the second period with a wonder strike from Thiago Alcantara making it 1-0 for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Mohamed Salah doubled the advantage for his 17th goal in as many games as the Egyptian exchanged passes with the skipper Jordan Henderson before netting a beauty of a goal.

The final whistle was soon sounded out which meant a fifth win on the trot in the Champions League group stage for Liverpool who had already booked their spot in the Last-16 of the competition.
