Liverpool announce the signing of in-demand striker Darwin Nunez

Liverpool have completed the much-awaited signing of the in-demand striker Darwin Nunez from Portuguese outfit Benfica on a six-year deal.

A statement put out by the club’s official website confirms Nunez’s arrival at Anfield with the Uruguayan forward penning terms with his new side after weeks of negotiations that have led to the big-money transfer.

Nunez has earned 11 caps for Uruguay despite his tender age of 22 with the player earning rave reviews for his stellar showing in the 2021-22 campaign in the Benfica shirt in which he netted 34 goals to become one of the most clinical forwards across Europe.

He completed his medical examination at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre and would be expected to link up with the rest of the players in the forthcoming weeks when Jurgen Klopp’s side gear up for pre-season ahead of the new campaign’s start.

It is tipped that Nunez could become Liverpool’s record signing, beating the £75 million paid to land centre-back Virgil van Dijk back in 2018, with the Reds in line to fork out a potential £85 million with add-ons to Benfica.
