Liverpool backed to secure Erling Haaland’s signature next summer

Liverpool have been given a surprising go-ahead by ex-Dortmund man Michael Rummenigge to land the in-demand Erling Haaland next summer ahead of other rival clubs in the mix for the player.

Haaland’s future dominated much of the headlines over the course of this summer’s transfer window with the Dortmund talisman being a major target for Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

Tuchel’s plans to bring the Norweigian forward to Stamford Bridge, however, could not materialise with Dortmund acting firm on their pricing demands which led to Chelsea making a big-money swoop for Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku.

With Haaland no longer expected to be a viable target for the west London giants by the time next summer comes around, Rummenigge while speaking to Sport1 reckons Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will be amongst the contenders to secure Haaland’s much-coveted signature.

Rummenigge said that the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, despite their strong interest in signing Haaland, will find it difficult to do so owing to pricing concerns which will mean Liverpool could emerge the frontrunners for the 21-year-old goalscoring sensation.

“Yes. They [Haaland and Mbappé] could get there. We’ll have to wait and see where he goes after this season,” Rummenigge said.

“Real and Barca have financial problems so I could imagine him moving to England. His father used to play there too. I could well imagine Liverpool for Haaland.”
