Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted to a worrying injury setback for Luis Diaz who has traveled back to Merseyside from the warm weather training camp in Dubai.
The Columbian international Diaz had staged his return to full training earlier this week after Klopp’s Reds jetted off to Dubai for a midseason camp while the Premier League was on break due to the World Cup.
Diaz, however, was reported to have flown back to England for further tests and scans following a setback in his recovery from an injury he suffered back in October during Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in league action.
An extended spell on the sidelines will be a cause of more worry to the Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp whose front line options have been without Diaz and Portugal international Diogo Jota for the last two months.
Speaking in the aftermath of Liverpool’s defeat to Lyon in a friendly game, as quoted by a report from The Daily Mirror, Klopp revealed that Diaz could be in line for another injury issue.
“Yeah, he [Diaz] was not in the best possible place. It’s clear it’s a big disappointment for all of us, for him as well. It was a non-situation in training, honestly. Nothing [then he] felt something. [He] didn’t feel a lot next day but we wanted to be really cautious and said, ‘OK, come on, let’s have a look’. Yeah, then the news came and it was a proper smash in the face. But that’s it now.”
