Liverpool FC gaffer Jurgen Klopp was awarded the Coach of the Year honour during the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony held on Sunday as the Merseyside outfit collected the Team of the Year accolade on the back of their 2019-20 title-winning heroics.
Klopp’s men stormed to the Premier League crown last season with a club-record tally of 99 points and in the process, ended a 30-year gap at Anfield for a league title.
Across the 38-games campaign, the Reds lost just three games and broke several records, deservedly being named the Team of the Year at the BBC SPOTY awards.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Reds skipper Jordan Henderson was in attendance to collect the award on his team’s behalf and the 30-year-old midfield star voiced words of gratitude for everyone at the club for helping him and his teammates achieve the pole finish last season in English top-flight football.
‘It means a lot to the team. Looking from the inside, the lads deserve it because of how hard they work every single day, wanting to improve, push each other to succeed.
‘But I’d also like to mention the team that you won’t see on the pitch, which I think needs a special mention because they do everything behind the scenes for us to go and perform. The likes of the medical team, fitness team, grounds staff, kitchen staff, security.
‘Everybody at the training ground do everything every single day for us to go and play football to the best of our ability on the pitch. Without them, we wouldn’t have been successful in the last few years.’
Clear some more space in that cabinet, boss…
