Liverpool could sign Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz in a swap deal involving Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool could be in line to sign their summer target Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz in a swap deal involving fringe first-teamer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Luiz was a name on Jurgen Klopp’s shopping list before the Liverpool head coach brought in Arthur Melo from Juventus on deadline day in a loan transfer with an option to make the move permanent.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard had been reluctant to part ways with the Brazil international Luiz who has grown into an influential player for the Midlanders and has been linked with a switch to some of the biggest clubs across England.

According to a report from The Daily Express, it is claimed that Liverpool’s interest in moving in for Luiz could be given a boost with the Reds’ forgotten man Oxlade-Chamberlain set for a move in the opposite direction.

Gerrard’s Aston Villa have struggled to impress early on in the Premier League season with just one win in their first six games leaving them hovering above the relegation zone which could prompt a rethink of their transfer plans come January.
