Liverpool credited with surprise interest in Chelsea striker Timo Werner

Liverpool have been credited with a surprise interest in moving in for Chelsea striker Timo Werner in this summer’s transfer window, according to a report from Football Insider.

The Germany international’s links with the Anfield giants comes at a time when speculation is doing the rounds that Jurgen Klopp could be tempted to add to his forward options before the window comes to a close.

Sadio Mane’s move to Bayern came after Liverpool forked out a potential club record fee to land Benfica dangerman Darwin Nunez who was a coveted name in the market after his 34-goal campaign last term.

Werner’s struggles since arriving in England’s top flight from RB Leipzig back in the summer of 2020 have been well documented and Chelsea are willing to cash in on the frontman for a modest asking price of around £33 million.

The player was a top name on Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist two summers ago before linking up with Chelsea as Liverpool pulled the plug on talks with Leipzig after the negotiations continued to draw out.
