The new Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has nothing but praise for his fellow teammates in front of his goal as he won his first major trophy earlier last week.
What a crazy past few weeks it has been for Adrian ever since joining Liverpool just before the summer transfer window closed on August 9th. The 32-year-old Spaniard arrived at Anfield on a free transfer from West Ham United and made his debut against Norwich City after Alisson Becker limped off the pitch due to a calf injury.
But in his first full game as a Liverpool player, Adrian played a pivotal role in winning the UEFA Super Cup for the Reds in a penalty shootout against Chelsea last week. And Liverpool has also climbed to the top of the Premier League table after winning both their games against Norwich City and Southampton.
While speaking to the official Liverpool website this week, Adrian had a chance to put into words his feelings after winning his first title in his career. Adrian explained that the Liverpool backline makes his job much easier and also singled out Virgil Van Dijk and the Dutchman’s importance calling him the best defender in the world.
Adrian revealed, “It’s really easy to play with them in front of you because they were the best defenders in the Premier League [in 2018-19] and we have one of the best defenders in the world, “I think, for me as a goalkeeper, they make easy decisions. Honestly, they defend everything like animals! They help me a lot. I played against them [the forwards] many times, so now I play with them and I’m enjoying how they play from behind. I’m really happy for them because they are doing really well; they have a great connection between them. They are good players individually, but they are good friends in the dressing room also and you can see that feeling on the pitch.”
