Liverpool face challenge from Chelsea in pursuit of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia

Liverpool are likely to face a challenge from Premier League rivals Chelsea in their pursuit of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

The Belgian midfield talent is wanted by both English top flight giants with recent rumours suggesting that Jurgen Klopp’s side have agreed upon a £60 million deal with Southampton to sign the 19-year-old.

Chelsea, however, could be in line to sting their opponents from Merseyside on the transfer front yet again, days after the west Londoners pipped Liverpool to land the coveted signature of Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

Liverpool’s need for reinforcements in the centre of the park has been well documented all summer but recent efforts made by Klopp – to launch eyewatering bids for Caicedo and Lavia – have failed to bear fruit ahead of the forthcoming transfer window deadline.
