Liverpool FC demand £15 million for Dejan Lovren amid Zenit Saint Petersburg links

Liverpool FC will accept offers in the region of £15 million for out-of-favour centre-back Dejan Lovren. The Croatian international is widely tipped to leave the Reds this summer after sparse first-team involvement in recent times.

Lovren has tumbled down the pecking order at Liverpool FC over the past two seasons. The 31-year old defender was a regular fixture in Jurgen Klopp’s side during the Reds’ 2017-18 campaign. However, the Croatian was often at fault for making horrific errors on the pitch and was singled out for criticism by the Merseyside club’s supporters.

But with the rise of Joe Gomez through the Liverpool FC ranks and Joel Matip staying free from injuries, Lovren has seen very few first-team opportunities come his way this season. The Croatian international has managed just 10 Premier League appearances this season for the champions of England.

Jurgen Klopp would be hoping to find a suitable buyer for Lovren this summer. However, clubs interested in signing the centre-back were hoping to negotiate a lower price than £15 million. Reports had indicated Zenit Saint Petersburg were keen on making an approach for the 31-year old Lovren.

However, the Russian side are hoping to offer only around £9m to conclude a deal for the Reds’ defender. But with the Merseyside club triggering a one-year contract extension in Lovren’s contract, the player has been tied down to the Reds until 2022. Hence, Liverpool FC are in a better position to command a higher price to let the Croatian leave this summer.

In the event of Lovren’s impending exit from the club, Liverpool FC will be one first-team centre-back short. As a result, Klopp would surely look to bring in another centre-back for the Merseyside giants this summer. RB Leipzig’s Nordi Mukiele has been linked with a move to Anfield, according to recent speculation.

Having signed for Liverpool FC in 2014 from Southampton FC, Lovren’s journey in the Reds’ shirt has been a mixed one. However, the player has certainly been a loyal servant towards the club. Jurgen Klopp’s side would certainly miss the Croatian’s presence in the dressing room upon his departure from Liverpool FC.
