Injury Update

Liverpool FC receive major injury boost ahead of game against Manchester City FC

The Reds have received a triple injury boost ahead of the upcoming Premier League fixture against Manchester City FC. Adam Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri, and James Milner all reported to Wednesday’s group training session held at Melwood.

The trio had missed Liverpool FC’s 4-0 victory against Crystal Palace FC last week at Anfield. However, all three players should be available for selection ahead of Thursday’s game which is to held at the Etihad Stadium.

Milner had limped off the pitch in the recent Merseyside Derby having suffered a knock. The extremely versatile and tireless midfielder had then missed the Anfield game against Palace. However, Klopp had played down rumors suggesting that Milner could be ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Shaqiri, on the other hand, has been missing in action since the Project Restart took place. The Swiss international has been sidelined with an injury since the start of 2020. The talented winger last featured for the Reds in a 1-0 away victory against Tottenham Hotspurs on 11th January.

Soon to be departing Liverpool FC Adam Lallana too could make a comeback for the Reds on Thursday night. The English midfielder had been on the recovery table recently, nursing an injury concern. However, the 32-year old was seen taking part in training sessions along with the rest of his teammates at Melwood.

Lallana had signed a short-term contract extension last month with Liverpool FC. The extension would see the player finish the 2019-20 Premier League season in the Reds shirt. Following the end of the current campaign, Lallana would become a free agent. Tottenham Hotspurs and Leicester City FC have expressed interest in signing the former Southampton FC attacking midfielder.

Shaqiri’s future at Anfield is also subject to a great deal of uncertainty. Reports suggest that the Swiss attacker could depart the newly crowned Premier League champions due to less playing opportunities for the Reds. However, Jurgen Klopp has refused to comment so far upon the 28-year old Shaqiri’s future at Liverpool FC.
