Liverpool given nod to go ahead with approach for Samuel Umtiti

According to reports from Sport, FC Barcelona have given the clear to Liverpool FC for making a move for disgruntled defensive star Samuel Umtiti, whose future at the Camp Nou outfit looks highly uncertain beyond the upcoming winter transfer window.

The French international has fallen down massively in the pecking order of Ronald Koeman’s side and looks eager to be on the way out of Spanish club with interest in the centre-back from an injury-hit Liverpool FC reportedly on the rise.

Injures to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Fabinho has made the Reds go into January with the objective of acquiring fresh blood in the defensive bracket, especially as Joel Matip remains as the sole fully fit central defender in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad at Anfield.

A rumoured long-term target for the Premier League champions, Umtiti’s signing will come of absolute importance to the Merseyside giants, particularly for the World Cup-winning star’s ability on the pitch, and FC Barcelona’s willingness to offload the Frenchman on a cut-price deal.

The 27-year-old central defender is understood to be keen on moving to England, and the prospects of playing for the Reds do seem to tempt Umtiti in seeking a Camp Nou exit as early as possible.
