Liverpool great Phil Thompson urges double swoop for Dortmund stars Haaland and Bellingham

Liverpool great Phil Thompson has urged Jurgen Klopp to prioritise a double swoop for Dortmund stars Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham.

The Reds were minor players in the transfer market this summer with France central defender Ibrahima Konate being the only new recruitment done by Klopp and his backroom staff heading into the start of the new campaign.

Despite calls for emergency signings to be made for shoring up the midfield and attacking ranks, Klopp chose to delay his plans to bring in fresh blood which might be put into motion come next summer.

In an interview with The Daily Express, Anfield icon Phil Thompson has said that the centre of the park remains a concern for Liverpool who could benefit greatly from keeping close tabs on Dortmund duo Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham both of whom are linked with a switch to the Premier League.

Thompson admits there will be heavy competition amongst some of Europe’s biggest clubs for the Borussia Dortmund pairing and Liverpool should be right in the mix.

“If it was me, things are going well, but we did have issues in centre-mid with the boys.

“Maybe somebody in that area, because that’s where the energy levels come from with our team. So that. I would think up front, I’d think you’d need more backup.

“I think that’s going to be a big area where we sort of need to make sure.

“And I’d like to think our hat is going to be in the ring for some of the big players that are going to be about.

“Haaland is one, even Bellingham, who I think is going to be a star.

“These players, I just want us to be asking questions, we need to be in there, and hopefully we are saving our money for a big one.”
