Liverpool At An Advantage For Getting Xabi Alonso As A Manager

Xabi Alonso becomes the first choice of Liverpool fans as the manager to succeed Jürgen Klopp, as a result of Bayer Leverkusen’s impressive unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga. Leverkusen might try to challenge the dominance of Bayern Munich, posing the risk of losing Alonso to Liverpool. The situation is getting harder for Thomas Tuchel, who is the Bayern’s coach at the moment. In fact, the club is eight points down in the second place meaning that they have to improve their form immediately in the season.

Bayern’s recent run of heavy defeats in the Bundesliga and the Champions League games fuel doubts about Tuchel’ role. While the Bayern head CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen still stands up for Tuchel, there are rumours that the club might consider a change of coaches at the end of the season. And, Alonso stands as a prime candidate for the job in the summer.

What is the latest on this transfer buzz around Liverpool?

Though the Bayern Munich top job may arise again at the turn of the next years, paralleling to the usual stint in prestigious positions like that of the Real Madrid the manager’s position, Alonso is enchanted by the magnets that are both clubs. The managerial scene has higher turnover levels, as shown by the current challenges.  An incoming coach to Tuchel could be guessing he is likely to stay in the club for a medium-term period only for just the precedent.

On the one hand, Liverpool is in the contrary with an evolutionary scenario based on a long-term plan. The newly elected successor of Klopp could, in theory take charge of the club for a more extended period, since the manager has already been in power since October 2015. A time spent in managerial positions, being 8 or 9 years seems unbelievable in modern football. Even though Liverpool favours the stability in managerial appointments, clubs like Bayern and Real Madrid have different approaches which are to appoint managers for shorter periods of time. The strategic objective continues to be identifying an individual who can keep some similarity with the tenured positions.

What is most likely going to happen at the end of the season?

On the other hand, the city’s firm support is a factor, as the Premier League, one of the most popular and well-known in the world, is located in England. Alonso’s competitive and appropriately leading in such a celebrated and highly competitive league gives another reason to like him. Consequently, Leverkusen now appears less attractive for Alonso, and therefore Liverpool is seen as more capable of this transition, which makes them come on top in this question.

Taking Alonso’s relation to the Bayern Munich team into account, there are no reports that would reject the possibility of him managing there anytime in the future. Bayern Munich has declared their interest in the player and unless he completes a move to Liverpool this summer, there will be a clearer picture as regards Alonso’s role in Tuchel’s plans. Klopp’s replacement, however, presents a range of challenge and also a series of benefits. With Liverpool providing a stable atmosphere and the Premier League club being one of the suitors, Alonso is likely to take the option of Reds into consideration as he think of his next step.
