Liverpool have reportedly identified Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella as their top transfer alternative to Jude Bellingham ahead of the summer window.
Bellingham, the sought-after England midfield talent, is certain to spark off a transfer war between Europe’s biggest clubs later this year, and Liverpool’s chances of signing the 19-year-old appear slim at present.
With a big asking price likely to be demanded by Borussia Dortmund to part ways with Bellingham and the high possibility that Liverpool does not qualify for next season’s Champions League, the Reds might need to look elsewhere for alternatives.
According to a report from Calciomercato, it is claimed that Serie A star Barella has emerged on the transfer radar at Anfield with Liverpool considering making an approach for the Italy international’s services to bolster their engine room.
The Euro 2020 winner is expected to cost around £65 million for his suitors and would be a cheaper option for Liverpool than Moises Caicedo of Brighton who has also been linked with a move to Merseyside of late.
