Virgil van Dijk could be set to extend his long-term future in the Liverpool FC colours as the Merseysiders inch closer to offering new terms to the star centre-back, reports from the Daily Mail claim.
Van Dijk is in line to miss potentially the remainder of the 2020-21 season after sustaining a major ACL injury blow in October’s Merseyside derby, and with the Dutch international defender undergoing surgery and a rehabilitation programme, Jurgen Klopp will have do without his star player’s absence in the Liverpool FC lineup.
However, the Reds gaffer is reportedly very keen on tying down Van Dijk for a long-term extension at Anfield, as Klopp seeks to solidify Liverpool FC’s growing stature in world football.
Following his £75 million worth move to the Merseyside outfit in January 2018 from fellow top-flight side Southampton, Van Dijk has been critical to transforming Liverpool FC’s defensive fortunes, helping the club clinch Champions League and Premier League glory in successive years.
An injured right knee curtails Van Dijk’s game-time for the ongoing season, but with reports of his extension at Anfield doing the rounds, he is expected to play a hugely important role in Liverpool FC’s plans for the coming years.
