Liverpool Was Interested In Marcos Llorente, Says His Agent

La Liga giants Atletico Madrid completed the signing of Marcos Llorente earlier this month but the players’ agent has revealed that shocking details that Liverpool was offered the 24-year-old midfielder before Atleti.

Llorente was considered as surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu under Zinedine Zidane as the midfielder managed just two appearances for Real Madrid since the Frenchman returned to the helm.  Therefore, the 24-year-old midfield gem moved across to the other side of the city in the Spanish capital to join Atletico Madrid and is allegedly going to replace Manchester City-bound Rodri.

The holding midfielder signed a five-year contract with Atletico Madrid and a £35 million transfer fee was agreed between the Los Blancos and the Rojiblancos. However, before moving to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Llorente’s agent has confirmed that Premier League duo of Liverpool and Manchester United were interested in the Spanish star.

According to Marcos’ agent, Julio Llorente, the midfielder was close to joining Liverpool in a potential summer deal and while speaking to Cadena SDR he said that he held talks with a few top clubs in England including Jurgen Klopp’s Merseyside outfit but the midfield roles were already filled at Anfield , “I contacted several clubs to let them know what happened, the conversation that Zidane and Marcos had. One of them was Liverpool, but Marcos’ position was covered and it wasn’t a priority.”

Julio then went on to wish his client the best of luck as he takes the strongest step forward in his career with the club that was best suited for Marcos, “But Atletico are those who perhaps took the strongest step and convinced us. I think we’re right. I hope it’s like that, I hope Marcos does very well.”
