Liverpool involved in a deadlock in deal for Marseille centre-back Caleta-Car

Jurgen Klopp’s desires of adding more reinforcements to his first-team ranks could take a major hit as Marseille stall over parting ways with Croatian international Duje Caleta-Car on deadline-day.

The Reds have already reached upon an agreement with Championship side Preston North End for Ben Davies as reported earlier but Klopp is understood to be keen on signing another centre-half to aid a severely injury-depleted backline at Anfield.

Caleta-Car’s profile is of much interest to the Premier League holders and an approach has been made for the 24-year-old by Liverpool FC, only for Marseille to halt the transfer proceedings citing lack of available options at their disposal to fill in for the Croatian defender should he take the flight to England.

Reports from the Daily Mail claim that Liverpool FC remains committed on Car heading into what would the final few hours of the January transfer window but a failure to land the defender’s signature could force Klopp to turn to alternative options.
