Liverpool keen to revisit interest in long-standing target Nicolo Barella

Liverpool are understood to be keen to revisit their interest in long-standing target Nicolo Barella following a setback in pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Merseyside giants failed to reach an agreement to sign Tchouameni this summer from AS Monaco with the Frenchman instead closing in on the move to Spanish champions Real Madrid.

With the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp on the hunt for midfield reinforcements to shore up his ranks in the centre of the park, his side could be set to revive an interest in a player who has been linked with an Anfield switch in the past, according to The Daily Express.

Inter Milan maestro Nicolo Barella has been a name on the shopping list for Klopp with the latter likely to try to make an approach for the Italian’s signature with his young age and ability of much importance to the Liverpool camp.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appears certain to call it quits at Reds this summer and with James Milner also potentially in line to leave as he turns 37, Liverpool’s need for a new midfielder is rumoured to take precedence in the coming weeks.
