Liverpool keeping tabs on Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s situation

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s situation amid rumours that the 25-year-old is unhappy at Camp Nou and could demand a move elsewhere.

De Jong was close to calling it quits with the Catalan outfit in this summer’s transfer window with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea making concrete approaches to land his signature.

The Holland international, however, chose to stay put with Barca which has not turned out to be a wise decision for him with the head coach Xavi having room for the midfielder only on the bench.

According to a report from The Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, who remain on the hunt for much-needed reinforcements to bolster their engine room, are alerted to the uncertainty that looms over De Jong’s future in Spain.

The Anfield camp could be dipping soon into the transfer market for a new signing after Arthur Melo, Klopp’s deadline-day recruit, was sidelined until after the New Year with injury trouble in a fresh blow to his depleted options in midfield.
