Liverpool are reportedly ahead in the chase to get their hands on Atalanta mid-field player Teun Koopmeiners this summer, sources from Italy suggest.
With Arne Slot taking over as Liverpool’s manager after Jurgen Klopp left, and with Richard Hughes coming in from Bournemouth as the new sporting director, the team is seeing big changes.
Yet, no new players have been brought in as the summer window at Anfield starts slow.
Recently, Liverpool has been looking to make their midfield stronger this summer.
Last summer, Klopp brought in Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo to take the place of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, who both went to Saudi Arabia.
Reports from Netherlands showed that Liverpool tried to get Feyenoord’s midfielder Mats Wieffer at the last moment.
But, despite Liverpool wanting him, Wieffer is now heading to Premier League side Brighton in a deal worth £22m plus more based on performance.
The report stated:
“At the last minute, Liverpool approached through Wieffer’s camp directly, not through Feyenoord.”
Arne Slot has admired the player for the last two years. Liverpool has shown interest in Atalanta’s midfielder Koopmeiners for the past year.

According to reports from Italy, Liverpool is currently leading the pursuit to sign the Dutch player.
Although Juventus is also interested, Atalanta prefers to sell him to a foreign club. They want £51m for him.
Juventus are attempting to negotiate a deal around £35m, but Liverpool have time to make their move as Juventus need to sell a player or two before they can proceed with a bid for Koopmeiners.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah is once again rumored to be a potential departure from Liverpool, with Saudi Pro League clubs expressing interest.
Last summer, Al-Ittihad reportedly made a £150m offer for Salah, which Liverpool quickly rejected.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that there are currently no updates on Salah’s future.

Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column:
“Despite the rumours, there are no updates on Mo Salah’s situation so far. It’s quiet, and there are no changes with Saudi clubs.
Though the interest has been there since last summer, Liverpool have not received any proposals or approaches at the moment.
I don’t have any confirmation or guarantee about Salah leaving and joining Saudi this summer.”
With the transfer window open, Liverpool are actively looking to strengthen their squad, focusing on midfield reinforcements while also monitoring the situation with key players like Salah.
