Liverpool legend Souness says the Reds have become a shadow of themselves recently

The recent run of form recorded by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC outfit means that other teams relish taking upon the defending champions, said club icon Graeme Souness in the aftermath of the 2-0 defeat for the Reds on Saturday.

A fourth straight loss was ensured for the Merseyside Reds as city rivals Everton left Anfield with their first win at the famed venue since 1999 and Souness believes that his former side lacks the cutting edge which had made them fearsome amongst their rival clubs in the league just the season before this.

‘Fair play to Everton,’ said Souness, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

‘Thoroughly deserved, they set out to be hard to play against. Liverpool had 71% of the ball but it was tippy tappy most of the time. Everton did the business. Their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves.

‘But as a Liverpool supporter, deeply disappointed. There was no fight about them, and the best team got the points. No Liverpool player can think “I’ve had a good game” tonight.

‘Liverpool were a team no one wanted to play against. Now everyone wants to play against them. They’re an easy touch.’

Defeats on the trot to Brighton, Manchester City, Leicester City and now city foes Everton has left the Premier League holders in a major lurch as they face an increasingly uphill battle to secure Champions League football for the next campaign.

The mid-week game in Hungary had seen the Reds bounce back to much-required winning ways against RB Leipzig but coming back to domestic football over the weekend, it was a now-familiar sort of outcome subjected towards Jurgen Klopp’s men.
