John Aldridge has called for Liverpool FC supporters to instil their faith in Jurgen Klopp’s decision of signing ex-Wolves star Diogo Jota for a fee of £41 million.
The 23-year old Jota, a player who has earned four caps for the Portuguese national team, joined the Merseyside giants on a five-year deal last week. Jota’s arrival at Anfield is bound to shake things up in the attacking section of the club and the new recruit would serve as a cover for the famed front trio of Liverpool FC.
The money spent on acquiring Jota’s services baffled many across the club’s spectrum, in particular, the ardent fanbase of Liverpool FC. £41 million is a lot of money to spend on signing a player, especially when Jurgen Klopp had been adamant on his inability to fork out large amounts of cash to bring big-money names to Anfield this summer.
Aldridge, however, has backed Klopp’s wisdom is going ahead with finalising an initial approach for Jota, who emerged as a top target for the Reds despite Klopp’s initial chase of Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr.
The ex-Liverpool FC forward voiced his approval for the new Reds’ arrival being capable enough of performing up to the high standards set by the club’s supporters and expressed delight at Liverpool FC now possessing a much more balanced striker force.
“It might seem a lot of money to some people but Liverpool fans should trust the manager implicitly because look how many decisions he’s got right.
“If he believes Jota is worth that, with Ki-Jana Hoever going the other way, it could turn out to be a really good deal for Liverpool.
“He’s quick, his delivery is very good, he can play in a number of forward positions and he knows where the back of the net is,’ said Aldridge when asked about Jota’s ability on the pitch.
