Graeme Souness has posed a question over Diogo Jota’s addition to Liverpool FC this summer by admitting that he is unsure whether the ex-Wolves star-forward will be able to handle the pressure that surrounds a new arrival at Anfield.
Jota signed for Jurgen Klopp’s side on a reported five-year deal and became the Reds’ third signing of this summer transfer window after Kostas Tsimikas and Thiago Alcantara. The 23-year old Jota was a major attacking asset for Wolves during his three-year-long stint at the Moulinex Stadium.
Despite voicing praise for the Portuguese international’s quality on the pitch and praising Jota’s ability to score important goals, Souness expressed fears of whether the player will be able to strive under the scrutiny that he will be subject to while playing in the Liverpool FC shirt.
‘He’ll [ Thiago] understand that you’re playing in cup finals every week because the opposition badly wants to beat you. He can deal with all that.
‘That would be my only question mark against Diogo Jota, Liverpool’s other new signing.
‘At Wolves, it wasn’t a cup final every week but it will be at Liverpool, so he has to show that he’s ready for that.
Jota made his debut for the Merseyside outfit after coming off the bench in their EFL Cup fixture win over third-tier side Lincoln City over the week.
