Liverpool Will Not Sign Nicolas Pepe This Summer

Liverpool Echo has confirmed that the club will not be looking to land a move for Lille superstar Nicolas Pepe in the summer transfer window.

The Reds are looking to build on their incredible season that they went through last season as they finished in 2nd place, just one point behind eventual champions Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side tipped Liverpool to the title this season after they faced basically no competition on their way to the title the term before.

Jurgen Klopp is now dire to end Manchester City’s dominance in the Premier League and wants to end Liverpool fans 30-year long wait to win the Premier League title. The Merseyside club is looking to bolster their squad and was linked with a move to sign Lille’s Nicolas Pepe if Mohamed Salah leaves the club.

The 24-year-old winger Pepe scored 23 goals for the Ligue 1 club last season and also notched up 11 assists attracting plenty of interest from several suitors in the European continent.

However just a day after Liverpool were rumored to bring Pepe to Anfield, Lille president George Lopez told French news outlet L’Equipe that every club can have preferences indicating that Pepe will not be leaving the club this summer,  “We know what the offers are… His entourage has a favorite destination and that in itself is not a problem. The discussions are with prestigious clubs where he will be happy but everyone has the right to have a preference.”

To this statement, Liverpool Echo responded and dismissed the article saying, “The ECHO understands that the Reds have made no attempt to sign the forward, nor do they plan to, this window.”
