Liverpool planning a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure

As per Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are planning a surprising transfer move for Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure, as manager Jurgen Klopp seeks to strengthen the midfield department.

With Jordan Henderson and Fabinho expected to depart for Saudi clubs this summer, Liverpool will need to find suitable replacements for the duo. As a result, the club is exploring potential options, including Doucoure.

Liverpool anticipates generating approximately £50 million from the sales of Henderson and Fabinho, providing manager Klopp with funds to invest strategically in the transfer market.

Klopp has already secured the signing of Alexis Mac Allister and has identified several other midfield targets for potential recruitment.

According to previous reports, Liverpool’s shortlist includes Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, and Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.

However, it is important to note that numerous other clubs are also pursuing these players, intensifying the competition for their signatures.

Hence, Liverpool are reportedly considering Palace midfielder Doucoure as a potential target in their search for a new defensive-minded midfielder.

The Anfield transfer chiefs have been impressed by Doucoure’s performances in his first season at Selhurst Park since joining from Lens for a reported fee of £21 million.

With 35 appearances for Crystal Palace across all competitions, Doucoure has showcased his defensive abilities and passing skills.

He registered the highest number of tackles and interceptions among Palace players and ranked fourth in terms of interceptions among all Premier League players.

This makes him an attractive option for Liverpool as they seek replacements for players like Fabinho and Henderson. However, securing Doucoure’s services won’t come cheap, as he is under contract with Crystal Palace until 2027.

Although the London club has no immediate pressure to sell, it is likely they would demand a significant profit on their initial £21 million investment.
