Liverpool are reportedly in for a double boost on the injury front with key first-team duo Joe Gomez and Naby Keita nearing returns to team training.
Both players had been on the sidelines prior to the recent international break with lengthly injury layoffs curtailing their time out on the pitch for Jurgen Klopp’s high-flyers.
Gomez had not featured since the start of November owing to a calf injury while the midfield man Keita has been on the recovery table since sustaining a hamstring niggle against Brighton in Premier League action.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sounded out hope for the aforementioned duo staging a return to full training as early as next week which would come as some much-needed respite for the German’s ranks at Anfield.
In his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool facing city rivals Everton on Wednesday, Klopp confirmed Gomez and Keita were making good progress on their way to full fitness levels.
“Joe is in a really good moment. He is doing really well, he is doing a lot of stuff outside, so hopefully next week he can be in training.”
“I hope the same for Naby, pretty much – that he will be in training next week as well, but there’s no news.”
