Liverpool receive major boost in the pursuit for Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria

The Reds have gained ground in their extended pursuit for Borussia Monchengladbach midfield general Denis Zakaria as the German club looks to offload their key player for just €20 million this summer.

Reports from Sport Bild claim that Zakaria’s deal with Monchengladbach expires in the summer of 2022 and the Bundesliga side would rather receive a windfall this time around than lose out on their star first-team regular for free.

Liverpool FC’s interest in the Swiss international has been compounded of late amid reports of Gini Wijnaldum being very close to the exit door at Anfield as the Holland international looks increasingly certain to sign for long-term suitors FC Barcelona.

Wijnaldum’s imminent departure could open the door for the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to bring in a fresh face to bolster the midfield ranks for his side who would be gunning for Premier League glory once again next season.

Besides Zakaria, a host of other names have popped up on the transfer radar of the soon to be dethroned champions of England with Sheffield United’s Sander Berge and Argentina international Rodrigo de Paul being seen as prospective targets Klopp would seek to add to his camp.
