Kingsley Coman’s expected move to the Premier League this summer had put Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool on alert to sign the Bayern Munich contract rebel who was keen for a major wage bump at the Bavarians.
Reports from The Express, however, claim that the Reds are in line to be priced out of a prospective deal for the 25-year-old France international who has also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on his Twitch stream has suggested that Liverpool could be backed to use the transfer market to bring in a new striker only if they offload Xherdan Shaqiri who has Lazio interested in his services after an impressive Euros campaign from the Swiss international.
“Let’s see if [Liverpool] sign a striker if they sell Shaqiri,” Romano said.
“I don’t see any possibility with Coman [joining], to be honest. It’s €90million. It would be really difficult to sign Coman this summer.”
Klopp is believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this summer to shore up his options up on the pitch with only Mohammad Salah and Diogo Jota proving consistent in their displays last season.
The likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane endured mixed fortunes in front of the goal across the 2020-21 campaign as the second fiddle Divock Origi failed to make the most of the opportunities that came his way.
