Liverpool shift their focus to Cheick Doucoure after losing Moises Caicedo

Liverpool are reportedly interested in securing the services of Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure this summer.

This latest development comes after Chelsea managed to outmanoeuvre them in acquiring Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, according to the Independent.

Jurgen Klopp is facing a significant need for reinforcements in the midfield area due to the departures of James Milner, Fabinho, and Jordan Henderson during this transfer window.

Despite having their £110 million offer accepted by Brighton and Hove Albion for Caicedo, the 21-year-old opted to join Chelsea, leaving the Reds without a successful signing in that regard.

Things quickly became worse for Liverpool. Despite Southampton agreeing to a £60 million offer for Romeo Lavia, the Belgian player opted for a move to Chelsea, and an official announcement is expected soon.

On the bright side for Liverpool, Doucoure is eager to join Anfield, and the potential cost for securing him could be less than £50 million.

Nonetheless, Crystal Palace are cautious about losing too many players this summer, given the departures of Wilfried Zaha, James McArthur, and Luka Milivojevic, while Chelsea are also nearing a deal for Michael Olise.

At 23 years old, the Malian international is an ideal fit for Liverpool’s desired number six role due to his exceptional ball-interception skills.

Moreover, he possesses the ability to make an impact in attacking scenarios, having contributed to 11 league goals over the past three seasons.
