Liverpool Signing Koulibaly Would Confirm The Premier League Title

Former Reds’ star Don Hutchinson explained that Liverpool would “wrap the title up right there” if a big-money deal was agreed upon to bring in Napoli superstar Kalidou Koulibaly to partner Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the Liverpool defence

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly said to be mulling over a move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly over the summer transfer window.

Koulibaly has long been linked with a move away from the Stadio Sao Paolo this summer with a switch to the Premier League, as 20-time English champions, Manchester United have also been keeping close tabs on the Senegalese star to bolster their backline.

It is possible that 2020 is the year in which Koulibaly takes on a new challenge outside of Italy, with no shortage of suitors in Europe willing to snap up the commanding 28-year-old centre back.

Premier League leaders Liverpool would need to invest heavily again in order to win that race, having previously splashed out £75 million on signing Virgil Van Dijk in January 2018, but Don Hutchison believes that would be money well spent as the Reds would become virtually unstoppable with the signing of Koulibaly.

While speaking to ESPN FC, the 48-year-old Scotsman explained that Koulibaly’s arrival at Anfield would guarantee Liverpool the Premier League title right then and there due to his defensive partnership with Dutch star Van Dijk, “I think if Koulibaly comes through the door at Liverpool and he plays alongside Virgil van Dijk, I think you wrap the title up right there. I don’t think there’s anyone better, there won’t be another partnership like it. The best defenders out there in Europe apart from the Premier League at the moment is Milan Skriniar at Inter [Milan], my gut feeling is he’s going to join Pep [Guardiola] at Man City, and alongside him is Koulibaly.

Liverpool are currently on course to win their first top-flight title in 30 years as they require only six points to confirm their status as Champions of England.
