Liverpool star tipped to depart the club on a free transfer next summer

Liverpool FC’s Dutch midfield general Gini Wijnaldum is expected to see out his deal with the Merseyside outfit and depart the club on a free transfer next summer, according to the latest reports.

Wijnaldum’s current contract at Liverpool FC, which the 29-year old signed upon joining the Reds four summers ago, expires at the end of the 2020-21 season for Jurgen Klopp’ side. The Dutchman is one among the very few first-team regulars at Liverpool FC who have not signed a long-term extension.

Over the past few months, Wijnaldum’s future in the Liverpool FC shirt has caused a great deal of media speculation and rumour-mongering, with FC Barcelona, tipped to lead the race to sign the ex-Newcastle United man. However, now it is being reported that the Catalan giants have cooled down their interest in making a move for Wijnaldum until next year.

The signing of the world-class Thiago Alcantara last week confirmed speculation that Wijnaldum was very close to the exit door at Liverpool FC, however, Jurgen Klopp may decide against offloading the Dutch international as early as this summer.

With the player entering into his final year of the original five-year deal penned by him, Wijnaldum’s departure from Anfield next summer will lead to a number of top clubs across Europe clamour for his signature.
