Liverpool starlet Sepp van den Berg set to sign for Schalke on a season-long loan

Liverpool starlet Sepp van den Berg is set to sign for Schalke on a season-long loan with Jurgen Klopp ready to green light the defender’s exit in a long-awaited decision.

Van den Berg’s move away from Anfield for the 2022-23 season has been approved by the Liverpool head coach Klopp amid reports claiming that first-team star Joel Matip was closing in on his return from injury.

Both Matip and Ibrahima Konate had been on the recovery table early on into the new season which had prompted Klopp to include Van den Berg on the bench for all of Liverpool’s four Premier League games this campaign.

According to a report from Goal, it is understood that Bundesliga giants Schalke are in line to snap the promising centre-back Van den Berg in a loan deal with the player expected to earn valuable top-flight experience during his time in Germany.

Liverpool are expected to retain the services of another wantaway defensive name in Nat Phillips with Klopp viewing the former as a viable fifth-choice centre-back option for his side.
