Liverpool submit request to postpone Carabao Cup tie against Arsenal

Liverpool have reportedly put forward a request for the postponement of the forthcoming Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Arsenal owing to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Anfield fold.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had been due to play the North Londoners Arsenal in the first of the two-legged last four clash between the two Premier League bigwigs for a place in the finals.

According to a statement on the club’s official website, however, it is claimed that in the aftermath of the increase in cases of COVID-19 within the Liverpool ranks, there was the cancellation of training on Tuesday followed up by a formal request to have Thursday’s Carabao Cup game against Arsenal postponed

The Reds were without Roberto Firmino, Alisson Becker and Joel Matip for the 2-2 draw against Chelsea this past weekend with the boss Jurgen Klopp joining the absentees after registering a positive test for the virus.

Moreover, the Anfield fold has lost the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita to the ongoing African Cup of Nations which is now underway in Cameroon.
