Spain international Marcos Llorente has refused to commit his future at Atletico Madrid amid strong links with a move to the Premier League this summer for the midfield maestro.
Llorente was a pivotal presence in the centre of the park for Diego Simeone’s men last season in their title-winning exploits which has made the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United eye up a move for him.
The 26-year-old netted 12 goals and registered 11 assists in what was a tremendous shift across the La Liga campaign for the Spaniard who is now regarded as one of the top midfield talents in the country.
In an interview with Spanish outlet AS, Llorente remained coy over his long-term future in the Atletico Madrid shirt as the player said that despite being happy at the club, ‘anything’ can happen in football.
‘I have many years left (on my contract). My idea is to stay, I’m fine, I’m happy at Atletico Madrid.
‘We have had a great season winning La Liga. Anything can happen in football, but I don’t think about that kind of thing. I am happy and now I am with the national team.
Jurgen Klopp losing Gini Wijnaldum this summer to Ligue 1 giants PSG has forced the Liverpool boss to scout the transfer market for new names, one of which is rumoured to Llorente himself.
The Atletico first-team regular could prove to be a terrific piece of transfer business for the Merseysiders who have been linked with a host of other players across Europe’s biggest leagues.
