Liverpool’s new goalkeeping talent Marcelo Pitaluga pictured at Melwood training session

A new face was seen training with the Liverpool FC first-team squad at Melwood on Friday in the form of Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga.

An unfamiliar name to many of the club’s supporters, Pitaluga is the 17-year old goalkeeper the Reds have signed this summer from Brazilian giants Fluminense. The youngster joins the Reds as a probable third-choice option between the sticks for the Anfield giants behind the likes of Alisson and Adrian.

Jurgen Klopp had been tipped to be in the fray to make a move for Pitaluga ever since veteran goalkeeper Andy Lonergan departed Anfield at the end of the 2019-20 Premier League title-winning season for the Reds.

The Brazillian’s move to the Premier League champions has reportedly cost the club a fee in the region of £1.8 million, and the 17-year old has agreed upon a three-year-long deal and is expected to be a regular fixture for the Liverpool FC U18’s.

Pitaluga’s arrival at the Merseyside outfit coincides with Loris Karius leaving Liverpool FC on a season-long loan deal for Bundesliga side Union Berlin, with the German’s move to his homeland being confirmed earlier this week by both parties.
