Lothar Matthaus says Jurgen Klopp is the ‘only’ choice for Germany top job

Jurgen Klopp is the only suitable choice to take over the reins at the managerial hot-seat of the German national team, according to legendary midfielder Lothar Matthaus.

While speaking to Sky Sports, Matthaus was fairly expressive in his desire to see Klopp as the German national team coach, tipping the Reds boss to succeed the under-fire Joachim Leow to the top job, with the latter’s performance coming under the scanner of late.

“When you talk about possible candidates, there is only one person that everyone would want in the future, and that is Jurgen Klopp,” said Matthaus.

“He is extremely successful, personable and equally popular with fans and the media.

“He’s far from finished in Liverpool and he’ll have time for the national team in a few years.”

This is not the first time that a former German international has voiced approval for Klopp to become the national team boss after his stint at Anfield comes to an end in 2024, with ex-Chelsea star Michael Ballack previously having suggested that the Liverpool FC manager will be a perfect fit for Die Mannschaft

For now, there exists only speculation over Klopp’s future at the home of the Premier League champions, and with nearly four years still to go on his current deal, nobody can rule out the German extending his trophy-laden stint at the Merseyside outfit.

Klopp’s five-year tenure so far at the Reds has been nothing short of a massive success, with the German guiding Liverpool FC to European and domestic success in consecutive years, and the club’s fanbase could only hope for more Klopp magic to unfold at Anfield in the future.
