The visitors got off to flying start with a brilliant link-up play leading to Salah setting up Naby Keita for the opening goal inside the opening five minutes.

Keita was then involved in the build-up to Liverpool’s second goal which saw Trent Alexander-Arnold deliver a low cross into the box and Diogo Jota slid to find the back of the net.

The third came through Salah who was set up by Keita and the former added to his tally just before the break after Manchester United’s backline gave away the ball cheaply.

Both teams went into the break with contrasting fortunes but it was clear that Jurgen Klopp’s men had clearly outplayed the hosts on every front.

The disparities between the two teams was clear even when the second period got underway as Liverpool looked the more likely to add to the four-goal lead against a toothless United defence.

Salah got his third goal of the game in the 50th minute and the Egyptian’s hat-trick was key to his scintillating form for Liverpool this new season.

United thought they had pulled one back when Cristiano Ronaldo curled his finish past Alisson Becker but the effort was ruled out due to offside.

Matters became worse for the hosts who had substitute Paul Pogba sent off after his rash challenge on Naby Keita which left the latter in a bad position and had to be stretchered off the pitch.

Liverpool saw off the remainder of the contest without being troubled by the 10-man Red Devils and the final whistle meant a win of much importance to Jurgen Klopp and Co.
